Do some women have a total hysterectomy and decide not to have chemo and radiation?

Yes, some women with endometrial cancer have only a total hysterectomy without additional treatments. For people with early-stage endometrial cancer, surgery may be the only treatment needed.

However, the decision depends on several factors:

* The stage of your cancer
* How aggressive the cancer cells appear
* Whether cancer has spread to lymph nodes or other areas
* Your overall health and personal preferences

Some people with stage 1 endometrial cancer only need surgical treatment. If your cancer is more aggressive or at stage 2, 3, or 4, additional treatments like radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be recommended.

About 15 to 20 percent of people with endometrial cancer may experience a recurrence after hysterectomy without additional treatment. Studies show most recurrences in early-stage cancer happen in the vagina when no adjuvant therapy is given.

Your healthcare provider will guide you on whether additional treatment beyond surgery is necessary based on your specific situation.
