I was Stage 1A, Grade 3 clear cell endometrial cancer. It has recurred in my lungs. I’m on immunotherapy and hopefully that’s working. Cancer is a trickster and can pop back up - BUT cancer affects each person differently. Some will have a recurrence
and some won’t. My advice is don’t think too far ahead - you’ll make yourself very anxious with “what ifs”. I deal with things as they come up - taking it one step at a time. Wishing you good health!

Can stage 1 grade 3 endometrial cancer come back?
Yes, stage 1 grade 3 endometrial cancer can recur, though the risk is relatively low compared to more advanced stages. Studies show that stage 1 endometrial cancer has about a 4.8 percent recurrence rate overall.
However, tumor grade plays an important role. Grade 3 tumors are considered high-grade, meaning the cancer cells look more abnormal under a microscope, grow more aggressively, and have a higher likelihood of returning after treatment compared to lower-grade tumors.
Other factors that can increase recurrence risk include:
- Tumor size larger than 2 centimeters
- Deeper invasion into the muscular wall of the uterus (myometrium)
- Type of endometrial cancer (type 2 cancers are more aggressive)
Most recurrences happen within three years after initial treatment. Regular follow-up appointments with your healthcare team are essential for monitoring and catching any changes early.
Your oncologist can give you a more personalized assessment based on your specific tumor characteristics and overall health.
