Yes, light spotting and cramping can be normal after brachytherapy, especially when you're just starting to use a vaginal dilator. Many people experience these symptoms as their vaginal tissue is still healing and adjusting.
Light bleeding and cramping are common side effects in the first few weeks after brachytherapy. The vaginal tissue may be sensitive from the radiation, and using the dilator can cause some mild irritation as you begin the process.
When to contact your healthcare provider:
- Heavy bleeding (more than light spotting)
- Severe pain or cramping
- Signs of infection (fever, unusual discharge, strong odor)
- Symptoms that worsen or don't improve
Since you've only used the dilator three times, your body is still adjusting to the process. However, it's always best to mention these symptoms to your cancer care team at your next appointment or sooner if you're concerned. They can confirm whether what you're experiencing is within the normal range and provide guidance on continuing dilator use safely.

Using a dilator was painful for me at first . I would also use a lubricant which seemed to help .
The pain did decrease as time went on . Big hugs
