It really depends on the surgical approach. If you have a laparoscopic hysterectomy, which is minimally invasive, you will probably go home the the same day or the day after surgery. If you need an abdominal hysterectomy, where the surgery has to make an incision in your abdomen, you may spend 3-5 nights in the hospital. Any post-op complications could also extend your stay. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy, was up and walking around the hospital that evening & went home the next day. Three days after surgery I was painting the garage door. I needed no pain meds at all once I left the hospital. Your surgeon should explain all of this to you prior to surgery. If they don’t, ask.

Thank you so much, I will see my doctor the 31 of October, she will then tell me what my options are. My gynecologist said my new doctor would most likely recomend removing all my reproductive system. I guess it's what you mentioned Radical. So I have to wait and see what happens. Thank you so much for answering me. I am really scared and your experience with operation helps me understand a little more.

I had my Hysterectomy surgery on Oct 8th. It was an abdominal surgery (Radical). I went home on Friday, Oct 10th. I didn't have any pain. I was able to walk and was doing well. I guess it depends on each person. How well you recover.

The length of hospital stay varies depending on the type of hysterectomy performed:

• Total (abdominal) hysterectomy: 3-7 days in hospital
• Radical hysterectomy: 5-7 days in hospital
• Vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomy: 2-3 days in hospital Most procedures are outpatient, meaning you can go home the same day if you're Show Full Answer

• Vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomy: 2-3 days in hospital Most procedures are outpatient, meaning you can go home the same day if you're recovering normally. However, you may need to stay overnight if you have any reactions to anesthesia or other complications. During recovery, you may experience some light bleeding and cramping which is normal. Be sure to contact your healthcare provider if you experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, or develop a fever.
