Brachytherapy is a focused radiation. As opposed to radiating the pelvis.

After 25 radiation I had brachytherapy twice. All the scanning took place on a separate day. They did a set up trial to determine the best size device to use. They practiced with insert. The day of there was no measurements or scans. The day of was just the metal tapon insert and wires attached, leave it in place for 10 min and remove. 30 min total. I know there are different types of treatment. Maybe that one is the longer procedure.

Laying still for 3 hours? That seems like a very hard thing to do. I would either have to pee or have the sensation. Curious if they have anything to help stay still. My Dr hasn't recommended, asking in case it becomes an option.

The explanation above explains brachy radiation well. It's an internal radiation treatment. I had 3 done after 25 external radiation treatments. The actual treatment is between 5-10 min. But the prep us alot more extensive. You go into the room where the CT is and lay on the table, there the doctor inserts a device with multiple wires attached into your vagina. They then do a CT so they can plan your treatment based on the exact placement of the device. It takes about 2hrs and you have to lay perfectly still. Once they get the plan ready they move you into the room where the brachy machine is hook the wires up. Everyone leaves, they start treatment and once done, they run a gieger counter over your abdomen to make sure there are no remaining pellets. The remove the device, you get dressed and go home. Total time about 3hrs.
