Ty Karen I am due for a full hysterectomy on Monday August 18 and I had my PS done on Monday of this week doctor called me to let me know the results. The PS light up and cancer has spread to my upper lymph nodes. So I was due for my yearly mammogram on Wednesday got results back today stating no dense in left Brest. The receptionist from my PCP called letting me know my results. I told her that have been diagnosed with endometrial cancer and I had a PS done on Monday and it light up . So I’m praying to god that this could be the reason behind my mammogram results because of the results from the PC. I really don’t want to prolong my surgery because of this. I’m just praying for the best outcome throughout all of this. Ty so much for responding back to me and God bless you. I hope that you get good news about your PS.

My understanding is that PET scans show areas of high metabolic activity which “light up” on the scan. But not every spot that lights up is necessarily cancer & PET scans don’t show structures very well. It’s like seeing a light on a hill , but you can’t tell if it’s a candle, flashlight or headlight. Usually another type of imaging procedure is ordered to better visualize what caused the area to light up on the PET. It sounds like the mammogram is not showing any areas of dense tissue (like tumor) where the PET lit up. Your doctor should explain these results to you. If they don’t, then call and ask. I had a spot on my lung light up on my PET two weeks ago. I’m currently waiting for the results of a follow up CT scan ordered to determine what that spot is.

I’m the same person replying. I got my mammogram done 2 days after my pet scan and my mammogram is saying no dense. Could it be from the pet scan lighting up?
